Function
Support and positioning: Located at the rudder head, it is mainly used to support the rudder stock, ensure that the rudder stock maintains the correct position during the ship's navigation, prevent it from falling into the water, and bear the weight of the rudder and the radial and axial forces acting on the rudder.
Auxiliary rotation: Help the rudder stock to rotate flexibly, so that the rudder blade can turn according to the needs of ship driving, and play a lubricating role during the rotation process to reduce the friction between the rudder stock and other components.
Structural composition: Usually composed of side thrust roller bearings and vertical sliding bearings, in which the ball bearing is responsible for bearing the weight of the rudder, and the vertical bearing is responsible for bearing the lateral force.
Installation location: Generally installed on the deck of the steering gear cabin, connected to the deck by bolts or other fixing methods to ensure its stability during the operation of the ship.
Rudder sleeve
Function
Protect the rudder stock: It is set on the outside of the rudder stock to provide protection for the rudder stock, prevent the rudder stock from being corroded and worn by seawater and hit by external objects, and extend the service life of the rudder stock.
Guarantee the centering accuracy: It plays a role in positioning and guiding the rudder stock, ensuring the coaxiality of the rudder stock during the rotation process, so that the rudder stock can accurately transmit the power of the steering gear and realize the precise steering of the rudder blade. It requires a high concentricity and cannot have too much error.
Sealing function: It forms a seal with the hull structure to prevent seawater from entering the hull, and also prevents the rudder stock lubricating grease from leaking into the seawater, playing a dual sealing role of waterproof and oil-proof.
Material selection
Steel rudder sleeve: It has the characteristics of high strength and good wear resistance, can withstand large external forces and torque, and is suitable for large ships and ships with harsh working environments.
Aluminum-magnesium alloy rudder sleeve: It is light in weight and easy to process and form. It is widely used in modern high-speed ships, but it is easy to deform during welding, and special welding processes are required to control the deformation.
Installation and welding
Preparation before installation: Before installing the rudder sleeve, it is necessary to measure and inspect the dimensions of the rudder stock and rudder sleeve to ensure that the matching accuracy of the two meets the requirements. At the same time, the installation position on the hull should be cleaned and polished to ensure that the installation surface is flat and smooth.
Welding process: When welding and fixing the rudder sleeve to the flange, bottom plate and web, symmetrical jump welding is often used to divide the weld seam into multiple sections and set welding intervals to allow the weld seam to dissipate heat during the interval time, reduce the interlayer temperature of the weld seam, effectively control the welding stress and deformation, and ensure the centering accuracy of the rudder sleeve and the rudder stock.
